Yara Abdouni

Yara is a qualified physiotherapist with over 18 years of experience in both general physiotherapy and women’s health physiotherapy. She also holds a Masters degree in pelvic floor dysfunctions. Yara graduated with a Bachelor (Hons) degree in physiotherapy from the Catalan University Rovira I Virgili. In 2001, she started working for the UK National Health Service (NHS) and for 8 years she gained extensive experience in her field through working in different clinical settings and hospitals. Prior to her move to Gibraltar in 2016, Yara was based in Abu Dhabi - UAE where she held a Senior Physiotherapist post for 6 years.

After spending most of her career treating musculoskeletal conditions in women, Yara became very passionate about women’s health and found herself more interested in general pelvic floor rehabilitation. Her personal experience with the benefits of pelvic health physiotherapy as a patient and the positive influence it had on her quality of life, motivated her to pursue further training in pelvic health. She has since trained at a Masters level, specialising in physiotherapy that uses specific treatment techniques to deal with incontinence, pelvic pain, pre/post-natal care, pain during sex, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic girdle pain.

The female body goes through endless changes, adjustments and readjustments with motherhood, the passing of years or physical activity. She is passionate about providing personalized care through every stage of a woman’s life. She understands how the pelvis influences many aspects of life on a deeply rooted level-mentally, physically and emotionally. We know that pregnancy and childbirth leave a mark on the woman's body. Recovering the function after childbirth is key to prevent future pathologies, and the way in which you face this delicate stage is key.

Yara is a Physiotherapist qualified in women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunctions, specializing in obstetrics and urogynaecology. She combines her extensive training in pelvic health with a background in musculoskeletal conditions.
