About Laser Hair Removal

Almost our entire body is covered with hair. Most of it is fine and pale, however we almost all have a darker, coarser hair in places we wouldn't want or expect it. It may be a question of aesthetics or hygiene; in any case this excess body or facial hair is often considered embarrassing and bothersome.

Laser hair removal is becoming more and more mainstream with women as well as men. It is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in clinics all over the world.  No one really wants to have any more discomfort, in-grown hair and irritated and infected skin which is the usual consequence of shaving, plucking or waxing which must be repeated time and again. Laser hair removal is a comfortable long-lasting solution. Laser hair removal is a much faster and more efficient procedure than most other available treatments. Laser targets hair follicles and eliminates or significantly impedes hair from growing back.

How does laser hair removal work?

Everyone’s skin is different, so our experts will take great care to tailor your treatment to your needs. Laser Hair Removal patch tests are a necessary part of the assessment stage before full treatment begins. Its main purpose is to determine the best laser to use and what precise grade of laser energy is required to achieve optimum results for your skin and hair type. Its secondary purpose and use is a mini sample for you to experience what the treatment feels like. Lastly, a patch test will show to you and your practitioner any adverse side effects prior to treatment.

Darker hair attracts more laser energy for better removal. An expert at Ocean Medical Clinic can advise you if your unwanted hair has sufficient pigment to be treated.

How many sessions are required?

Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments, as we can only remove hair in the growth phase. Therefore, the amount of treatments depends on the skin type, the area that is treated, the thickness and colour of the hair and the patient’s individual needs.

Is hair removal permanent with the Primelase Hair Removal?

Primelase HR equipment eliminates progressively active follicles permanently (hair in growth phase) through numerous sessions. At certain times, there are some factors that can activate currently inactive follicles and destruction is not possible, for example hormone changes are amongst these factors.

Does laser hair removal have any side effects?

The side effects are minimal, and most of them are reversible. The most common reactions include redness and perifollicular edema (small red dots caused by irritation).

Is it painful?

The procedure is practically painless and it is bearable for the patient. However, some patients may feel slight discomfort and heat characteristic to the laser.

How long does the treatment last?

The duration depends on the size of the area being treated with larger areas taking more time.
